Website tip #5-06 (getting started)

Re-posted from website tip #5-02

Here are some suggestions on how you can start managing your website. Of course, there will be on-going maintenance in the weeks and months to come. Our focus, in this article, is to identify steps that you should take when getting started.

All maintenance is performed through the administration function. Follow these steps:

- on your home page, scroll to the bottom. Look for a small "Login". Click on it.
- you will be at your admin login screen
- enter your password (you entered the password when you set up your website)
- you will be at your admin menu screen
- click on the function that you want

When you are in the administration function, you can click on View My Own Page to return to your website.

Your web design. Your website is created using a default style. There are many other design styles and colors that can be used. Review the entire library and select one that appeals to you and that portrays your personality and business approach

While you're at it, this would be a good time to update your greeting page . This page, if it is to be displayed, will appear for a few seconds before the home page. Review the library of available graphics, or use your own. By the way, this page is often called a "welcome" page or "splash" page.

Your photo. Like their business cards, most real estate professional websites have the photographic of the website owner. You will want to do that, too.

While you are in the Edit Personal Information screen, update your personal information by using the Your Profile box. This description will describe you, your business, and your website. Personalize it.

Your reference links. The reference links are generally used to feature community information. Make sure that you update this section to reflect the activities and other information about your community.

Ongoing updates. A simple update that you can do often is add a personal news item. This enables you to keep your clients and prospects aware of your current activities. Many use this feature to announce open houses, new listings, and new sales.

Finally, be sure that you have registered for the "subscriber only" section in our website at http://www.webcubic.com. You will find manuals and articles of interest to you as you get your website ready for production.
