Skype
One of our favorite communication tools is Skype. Skype is an example of voice-over-Internet-protocal (VOIP). With it you can talk with anyone who also has Skype installed on their computer - at no charge for the call. You can call a regular phone for a very low rate.In addition to voice-to-voice communication, you can also enjoy video conferencing, instant messaging, and even share applications.
At WebCubic, we use Skype to communicate with each other from different locations. Since we have cameras mounted on our laptops, it's really a video conference. Some of our cameras are equipped with "face tracking" technology, which means that it will follow our movement as we move about.
Our favorite component is the application sharing. In less than a minute one side can share an application running on their laptop. This means that the application is shown on the other laptop. Everything that happens within that window is seen. We typically only share one window at a time, but it is possible to share the entire desktop with all windows showing.
To get started, visit Skype's website and download the application. Install it in minutes. Then begin using it. And all of this is free.
