Website tip #5-18 (navigation buttons)

WebCubic's websites can easily be modifed to add, change, or remove navigation buttons. Click on "edit navigation buttons" from the administration main menu.

- to ADD a navigation button, go to a blank row and enter the name of the new navigation button and its destination URL. Optionally you can use the "pull down" arrow to point to an internal page.

- to CHANGE a navigation button, go to the row that you will change and alter the name of the navigation button or its destination URL.

- to DELETE a navigation button, go to the row that you wish to delete and clear the name of the navigation button and its destination URL.

- to REPOSITION a navigation button, use the up and down arrows to achieve the sequence of the buttons.

We'd like to add a few comments about naming the navigation button. Remember that your visitors will need to rely on these buttons to navigate through your website. We suggest that you use no more than a dozen buttons - this will make your visitor more comfortable with your website and convey that it will be easy to navigate. If they have to struggle, then they will not think much about your contents, and especially with any offers you have on your site. Did we mention that they will quickly leave?

The names of the navigation buttons are important.

- it may seem 'folksy' to say "Meet Bob". Resist that temptation. Just say "Contact me (or us)".

- one of most obvious things that visitors will want to do is search for properties. Put your "home search" button first. Group the "my listings" and "office listings" or "featured listings" nearby.

- if you place the "home search" at the top of the list, where do you put your "home" button? It doesn't make sense to put it in the middle somewhere, so place it at the end of the list.

Navigation buttons are best placed at the top of the website or along the left side. They should appear on all pages. Of course, that's exactly what you will get with WebCubic websites.
