Domain names and Google

We've mentioned previously that domain names can influence your search engine ranking. One way they do that is by their age. Search engine experts report that Google seems to trust and therefore favor older domain names. In turn, the website associated with that older domain name will place higher in search engine rankings.

Another way that domain names can influence your search engine rankings is when they expire. Domain names that expire within a short period of time (one year) might be one that is being used in a short term effort to improve search engine rankings. By contrast a domain name that expires farther into the future indicates it is "here to stay". Therefore Google regards these as favored sites and therefore results in higher search engine rankings.

Since Google doesn't publish its exact algorithm for search engine results, we cannot say for certain that this is the case. But search engine gurus have mentioned this recently.
