WebRings - any value?
WebRings were a strategy some years ago that was used in the hopes of attracting traffic. We recently saw some information on this subject regarding their value in search engine optimization.In case you encounter the subject, too, we thought we would supply information on their role for your website.
In one word, RUN!
- there is one inbound link for a ring, and one outbound link - hence the "ring"
- the ring could produce some traffic but most reports say those are negligible
- they do NOT produce any SEO value and possibly might create harm. We understand that Google will view such web rings as a "black hat" tool
- a ring is generally a related set of sites, therefore may be a ring of real estate sites - possibly competitors? This would be a good reason to avoid a ring.
