Social media impact

We're not entirely sure what this all means, but we heard of an interesting statistic that indicates the rapid impact of social networking.

You've all heard of the fantastic job that the US Airways pilot did in landing flight 1549 in the Hudson River. All 154 people on board survived.

His Facebook fans page shows almost 36,000 fans. Think of what this means.

- lots of people know about the event because it was so well reported on when it happened
- people responded by going to Facebook or were already there and looked for this pilot's page
- they took further action to become fans

This means that Facebook as well as possibly other social networking sites are destinations when people have something to say. Not phone calls - not telephones - not letters - maybe not even emails.

What social media sites are you using?

This man is a hero and Facebook shows that!
