Getting traffic to your website

We got a call from one of our clients informing us of the very few contacts that she has gotten from her website. The first thing we did was to look at her website and some of its statistics. We quickly learned she is getting close to100 visitors a day but has a very low conversion rate (leads per visitor).

In her case better search optimization could help her get more traffic to her site. In addition she needed more "calls to action" on her site.

We realized that many of our clients probably need to do the same thing. We'd like to offer some suggestions:

To get more traffic to your website:

Increase promotion off-line. This means place the website domain name on everything: business cards, media advertising, promotional materials, voice messages ... everything!

Do more Internet surfing. Visit appropriate message boards and forums and participate. When you leave comments or add to a discussion, be sure to post your name and domain name.

Make yourself a local media contact. There are likely local media people in your area. These include newspapers, college campus media, radio and television news stations. Make them aware of you and that you are the "go to" person for certain kinds of information.

One of our real estate clients has a contact at a cable news station. Whenever they are interested in a real estate update from the perspective of a REALTOR, they contact our client. He has been appearing on their programs for the past four-to-five years. Do you think that helps his business? Definitely!

Use social and business networking sites. We suggest that you create accounts on Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin. If you can you should "groups" and follow those groups. Participate in any discussions that you can.

One of our small business customers uses social media tools in addition to traditional and Internet promotion. This combination creates greater exposure for their WebCubic website and results in visitors from more sources.

Write a blog. A blog will enable you to post thins that are happening in your business - hopefully these will be successes you are experiencing. A blog will enable you to provide a link back to your website. You should encourage your visitors to visit your site.

A REALTOR uses a blog that she updates regularly with news about the real estate market in her community and other items of local interest. Because of the postings she makes she gets many readers that would not typically find her website. She hasn't kept any statistics to know how many visitors she gets on her website that came via the blog - but we can tell you that she has maintained her website traffic (and has seen an increase in it) whereas many of our other clients have had less traffic because of the lingering real estate economy.

Are you doing these things?
